Anthroposophic Art Therapy (BVAKT) ®

What is Anthroposophic Art Therapy (BVAKT) ®?

In anthroposophic medicine, health is understood as a dynamic state in which healing processes and disease-causing processes are in balance. This state of equilibrium has to be continuously maintained or, in case of illness, developed again according to the individual needs of the patient. In anthroposophic art therapy (BVAKT) ®, among others, painting, drawing and sculpture are used as therapeutic exercises.

It is not only about expressing emotions or processing difficult experiences through art, but about experimenting and discovering new perspectives and positive solutions, thus being able to know and face the disease in a creative way and actively shape the own path to health.

In therapeutic painting and drawing we work with different materials in the creation and design of an image or a drawing. Topics such as light, darkness, shape and color are addressed by creating color spaces and delving into the proportions and general composition of the work. In plastic-therapeutic work, generally with clay, we move around themes such as materiality, proportion and volume, as well as vitality, warmth, formation, maintenance and transformation, and emotional expression.

The German Anthroposophic Art Therapy Association (BVAKT ®) advises the use of these techniques to treat problems such as depression or anxiety, reactions to stress, burnout, personality disorders, eating disorders, physical illnesses such as breast cancer and other types of cancer, psychosomatic disorders, biographical crises, as well as developmental and behavioral problems in childhood, adolescence and adulthood.
